Consumer Voice Presentation Raising Awareness about Gambling Harm

Join us for an enlightening session featuring presenters from both Gambling Impact Society and GambleAware.

GIS brings a project officer and an individual with lived experience of gambling harm, while GambleAware contributes a speaker to enhance awareness of gambling harm.

By the end of the session, participants will:
  • Explore the lived experience of an individual who has faced and overcome a gambling problem.
  • Reflect on the impacts of gambling issues on the person's family and friends.
  • Identify early warning signs indicating gambling becoming a problem.
  • Identify available sources of help for individuals dealing with a gambling problem.
  • Engage in discussions on the issues raised during the session.
  • Increase awareness about how gambling affects individuals, families, and communities.

About the tutor

GAMBLING IMPACT SOCIETY NSW

The Gambling Impact Society (GIS) representatives, Joan Gillis and Kate Roberts are social workers, with an interest in gambling harm and providing education and resources to address this. They are currently project officers on the lived experienced project – GIS Consumer Voice Spokesperson - Ralph and GambleAware, Community Linker, Chris Davidson will be presenting an informative Consumer Voice project - raising awareness of gambling harm through free education sessions.

Ned, the GIS lived experienced spokesperson has had a history of gambling harm, who is now in recovery and has been trained up to tell his story as part of this education session. He will talk about his journey with addiction and the impact gambling harm had on his life and others and what helped with his recovery, including linking in with support services.

Cathy Ellis, GambleAware Linker, Wesley Counselling Services works for a State Government funded service that is available for free to those affected by gambling harm, includes counselling and support to be gamble aware with information on how to gamble safely, plus free confidential support for anyone affected by gambling.
