Explore North Sydney’s stunning outdoors in this 3-hour workshop!
Perfect for both beginners and experienced artists, this hands-on session will guide you through selecting a subject, composing a quick sketch, and bringing your scene to life with watercolour or oil paint.
With expert guidance, you will:
- Learn how to choose and frame your subject
- Capture light, depth, and atmosphere in your work
- Experiment with watercolour or oil techniques to create your masterpiece
Materials
- Easel
- Brushes
- Paints (watercolour or oil)
- Sketchbook, canvas, or paper
By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a completed painting or the skills to refine it at home. Enjoy a creative day in the open air!
Please note: This workshop takes place outdoors. In case of bad weather, it will be held in the Art Room at North Sydney Community Centre.

About the tutor
Shelly Du
Shelly attended many classes at North Sydney Centre from life drawing to watercolour painting, acrylics and pottery. Shelly enjoyed all the classes and says now it is her time to contribute as a tutor. 'North Sydney Community Centre holds a very important position in my heart because I started my art career here when I sold my first painting in the North Sydney 2014 Student & Tutor Exhibition. It greatly encouraged me. A few years on, I've won quite a few prizes in art exhibitions in Sydney and sold more than 200 paintings with collectors from 10 countries. I would like to share my experience and my passion for art with the students in the centre.'
