Bake The Perfect Scones (Workshop)

Course Overview

What’s your favourite scone?

In this workshop you will learn the fundamentals of making scones. You will learn how to make a scone in the traditional way, how to prepare the dough, cut the scones, what the best oven temperature is and how to set scones on a tray to obtain optimum results. We will explore four different types of scones and sample them with a cup of tea.

You will make:
  • Buttermilk scones
  • Pumpkin scones
  • Date scones
  • Cheese and herb scones

In this workshop you work individually and in teams.

Following the workshop we will enjoy the fruits of our efforts over a cup of tea and discuss the great scone dilemma, which comes first, jam or cream?

Materials
  • Apron
  • Covered shoes
  • Containers to take home samples
  • Something to take samples home in

About the tutor

Yvette Henderson

Although I have no formal training in food. Growing up, my family life was all traditional cooking and passing skills form one generation to the next. I am a keen baker and regularly bake on a Monday night for the folks I work with in advertising. I too feel strongly about the need to preserve food and reduce food waste. I have joined Lisa since 2018 running CWA workshops to pass on these skills.

About the tutor

Lisa Maude

I originally trained as a Home Economist working in corporate kitchens, appliance companies, magazines, in Australia and overseas, then as a film and remote location caterer for 15 years.

I have also been interested in food history, security, sustainability and food rescue. Marrying all my interests together I developed a passion, or obsession, with preserving.

I have tutored in the bygone skill of jams and preserves since 2018. I regularly create and share historical recipes on my Instagram account @spoonfedagain
