Brazilian Portuguese (Pre-Intermediate)
Course Overview
This course has been designed focusing on those who have learnt some basic concepts of Brazilian Portuguese and want to continue to learn the language and also the culture.
In this course students are encouraged to speak more (addressing the whole class or working in pairs or small groups) in order to improve their conversation skills and work towards fluency. Students will also learn some Brazilian Portuguese grammar and vocabulary, as well as learning subtleties of the Brazilian culture.
For those who haven’t formally studied Portuguese but do have some knowledge of the language, you’re also welcomed in this course.
Additional resources (e.g. music, videos, etc) might be used when relevant to a specific class.
Course Breakdown:
Week 1: Focus on basic conversation; including but not limited to greetings and introducing yourself. Review of some basic language elements, such as numbers and the alphabet in Portuguese.
Week 2: The verb ‘To be’ in Portuguese - SER & ESTAR. Days of the weeks and months of the year.
Week 3: Talking about routines: using verbs in the present tense to describe daily habits. Discovering some ‘false friends’ in Portuguese.
Week 4: The verb 'To Have’ in Portuguese - TER. Family members in Portuguese and possessive adjectives (my, your, his/hers, etc).
Week 5: Different means of transportation. Exploring the vocabulary of different places and their elements, e.g.: schools (teachers, students, desks, chairs, notebooks, etc), hospitals (patients, doctors, nurses, etc) and more.
Week 6: Prepositions (in, on, at, by, about, etc). Elements of a house - describing key items of different rooms in a house.
