Sign Language: Auslan

Course Overview

Introduction to Auslan 1 is designed for people who have no prior experience with Auslan.

Students will learn basic skills to communicate with Deaf people on a variety of everyday topics.

The beginner courses are offered in a fun, informal, and relaxed in-person setting.

Students will learn:
  • Greeting others and introducing themselves
  • Giving and requesting personal details such as phone numbers and addresses
  • Counting in Auslan
  • Fingerspelling in Auslan
  • Asking and answering simple questions (using “who”, “what”, “when”, “where”, etc.)
  • Learning practical vocabulary, including colours, days of the week and family members
  • Developing effective visual-gestural communication skills
  • Learning about the Deaf Community and its culture
  • Practicing effective communication strategies for interacting with Deaf people
Term 4 Dates

Term 4 for Auslan runs from Tuesday 22 October to Tuesday 10 December.

  • Device to access internet
