Northside Produce Market August 17 Highlights

Friends Pauline Nguyen and Emma Scott were tired of being served crappy chai and so they created Tiger Purrr and enlisted executive chef Mark Jenson of the world’s most awarded Vietnamese restaurant - Red Lantern, to craft a truly flavourful, activated Chai tea with no crap in it! The girls are so excited to be at Northside this Saturday, that you will be given a free cup of hot chai when you purchase a canister of their chai.

We’re buzzing having discovered that this season, Australian Honey Cellar’s Snow Gum Honey has also captured the flavour of the Black Sallee Eucalyptus tree which is incredibly rare to do. Usually when the Black Sallees (or Black Sallys as they are also called) flower in Jindabyne, it is too cold for the bees to fly to them. However, this season, it was warmer when they flowered, which is lucky for us.

Steven Adey out on his Darling Mills Farm, told me that his “Watercress is particularly good at the moment”. This delicate, leafy vegetable is a semiaquatic plant which can be eaten raw and cooked. Do use it sooner rather than later as it is not as hardy as some other greens. I love eating Watercress in Winter as its peppery freshness is a great addition in a salad alongside more robust, rich dishes.

Petersons Wines and Savannah Estate are officially launching their refill station at this market. To celebrate, they are offering $10 off any bottle of the Petersons Mad Era and the Savannah Estate Reserve Muscat and Reserve Tawny. Once empty, return the beautiful bottle to be refilled for $20 off the normal price and sealed with a fresh cork. Cheers to delicious sips and a greener planet.

Brads Bikes return to our Check In & Tune Up stall from 8am till midday, to give your bike a free service. We thank North Sydney for their continued support of this wonderful, free community service. To find out when the Check In & Tune Up stall is operating, visit the Markets page on our North Sydney Community Centre website.

I am feeling warm on the inside just thinking about this Saturday’s Northside Produce Market. See you there!

With warm regards, Lisa.
